That's great, I love it when non-veggie places are so accommodating & helpful. My husband & I stayed at the Kemp Townhouse in Brighton on our wedding night & they made us an amazing vegan breakfast the next day. I'll be trying your asparagus soup too, it looks great.

Well, the actual filling substance is nuts but you could use silken tofu. Whizz it up in a blender, add the chocolate, vanilla & Agave but no water. This should come out quite nicely. If its a little runny, place it into the tart cases and chill for approx. 20 mins. This should set it. Make sure they don't stay in too long though or it could set like rock!

This sounds BEYOND delicious. If you were making it for someone with a nut allergy would you just take out the cashews, or would you substitute something else?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I understand what you're saying and it's true that many cafes that serve meat serve meat-free sausages and bacon and yes, when I visit these places, I eat them too. The point I was making was that there are some vegetarian and vegan establishments out there that do this too. I think that if you go out to a restaurant/cafe that specialises in a specific cuisine, they should be the best at what they do and to me, that means making your own food.

I reckon it's fine for a cafe to serve meat analogues, because it gives people a chance to try a vegan sausage or a vegan 'bacon' or whatever, without having to buy a whole pack. A lot of people sniff at meat subs until they try them, and realise they're quite tasty. I do understand your point, but plenty of non vegetarian cafes obviously use pre-prepared stuff with abandon. If it was a rather high-end place maybe I'd feel differently, but if you were eating a fried breakfast there, I suspect it wasn't high-end. Was the place in London, may I ask? I have a suspicion I know where you're talking about y'see. :)

not your immagination, cheese does actually have morphine, coedine and other opiates in it which hooks you in and is hard to kick. http://www.all-creatures.org/health/breaking.html

The very idea of an egg makes me feel sick now and so does the idea of eating 'cow cheese' as S calls it. Quite amazing as I lived for years on boiled eggs and cheese on toast (literally mainly those things at times!) and had a severe cheese addiction!

Thanks Bev! Your recipe for Sesame Parmesan Sprinkle looks great. It's a real shame the some doctors just aren't aware of the health benefits of some foods which don't contain animal products. Let's all try and help change that!

PS - How are you with pasta now? Have you moved on to having it for dessert as well?!

Your recipe looks scrumptious. Roasted peppers (or capsicums as we call them in Aus) have a totally different taste than when they are raw.

I really enjoyed your blog post. I've been vegetarian for 38 years and vegan for a almost 3 years and we rarely go out for meals because it is just too difficult to find a restaurant that will cater. I went to my husbands work Christmas party at a restaurant several years ago (before I became vegan) and I was given the same pasta dish as an entree as well as main meal...lol.

Thanks Hanna! I'll try and get a pic up but I had problems uploading one.

With the garlic, sorry about that mistake there. Take a clove of peeled garlic and rub it on the freshly toasted ciabatta. It adds a really subtle but noticeable flavour.

Cheers!

Hey Danny,

Lovely first blog and this recipe looks scrummy. I will definitely give it a go. Can you include a photo next time? then I know what I'm aiming for! Oh and the recipe asks for garlic, but it wasn't in the ingredients listing, should it be chopped? Should I roast it with the peppers and tomatoes?

I'll send you a pic with my attempt! Lots of vego love xxx
